Hey guys, today we are going into an Islamic University in Indonesia. As I keep driving, I am greeted by this giant Golden dome, the classic symbol of Muslims and their achievements. But I am here to investigate something crazy, that happened exactly 14 years ago. On December 11th 2009, workers were digging the earth for laying down the foundation for a new library. And what they found, was this.
Yes, an ancient Hindu temple buried 10 feet below the ground. You see the lingam inside? yes this is a temple for Lord Shiva. Archeologists say all this was built at least, 1200 years ago. And it is not a regular temple, something is very very mysterious about this temple. As soon as you set eyes on it, you immediately realize that it has a strange design, there are 2 separate temples, and a weird, mysterious glass box in a corner. As I go in, I walk around the temple only to find out there is no entrance. I have to climb up, to see what’s inside.
I am immediately attracted to the lingam, I want to touch it and tap on it. There is something very odd about this lingam, can you tell me what it is? This is a 2 part lingam, which is quite unique. What does that mean? Lingams usually have 3 parts - Circular, a smooth cylinder on top, Octagonal or 8 faceted mid-section and a Square with four sides at the base. But here, you can see that the octagonal mid-section is missing. It only has 2 parts - the top circle and the bottom square. Why did ancient builders deviate from the norms and create such a lingam? Because they wanted to remove the lingam from the base whenever they wanted. The octagonal part is usually carved to make the lingam firmly fit into the base and make it immovable. That’s why this lingam was not designed with the octagon.
But why did ancient builders want to remove this lingam often? When archeologists removed the lingam from this base or Yoni, they found something spectacular underneath, in this square hole. They found a stone box, and when they opened it, they were shocked. Inside was a complex stone plate, made of several cavities, they had never seen anything like this before. It had 8 large arrows carved, exactly aligned to the 8 different directions. And it also had 8 small rectangular cavities carved between the arrows. In the center, there was a perfectly carved circle. So, a total of 17 cavities. The advanced stone work mesmerized the archeologists and immediately their chief and other officials started pouring in to look at the miracle. They wondered, how did the Primitive people who lived 1200 years ago, create such an advanced stone work, did they use machines to carve them? But this was nothing compared to what they found inside these cavities!
Inside one cavity there was a thin gold foil, neatly cut and placed snugly in the cavity. In the next rectangular cavity, there was a thin rectangular silver foil placed perfectly. This continued with alternating foils of gold and silver, except 2 cavities in the East and North East. They were filled with oval bronze pieces. As we recreate this, we can understand that this starts to look like some strange gadget or a device.
But what was inside the circle at the center? In the center there was a Gold foil with inscriptions in ancient Kawi Script. We can see that something is written on it, but it is not clear enough to read. When they removed the gold foil, they found one more amazing artifact placed underneath. A circular plate made of pure gold, with arrows pointing in 8 directions, and a circle in the center.
