Beschreibung
Veröffentlicht am 12.01.2017 Dozens of far-right Flemish and French activists gathered in front of 'The Egg' venue in Brussels, to protest against the award a title of honourary doctorate to German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Protesters rallied in front of the entrance to the venue with banners and placards, before they were moved on by police who cordoned off the area to make way for the attendees.
The rectors of University of Gent Anne De Paepe and University of Louvain (Leuven) Vincent Blondel awarded Merkel with honorary doctorate title for 'political efforts and defending common European values.' Prime Minister of Belgium Charles Michel and Minister-President of Flanders Geert Bourgeois were also present at the ceremony.
